DESIGN

THE CHALLENGE IS THE ADVENTURE.

They say life is a collection of moments. That’s why the Outback is here to accompany you through every moment and make each one count. Start all your adventures and satisfy your wanderlust with confidence. The elegantly styled Outback represents rugged go-anywhere capability, versatility to enrich any active lifestyle, and safety you can count on—all to help you reach your destination with comfort and peace of mind.

Ruggedly equipped. Fully prepared.

Make bold plans. The Outback can take you on almost any road you’d care to venture, and thanks to the reliable SUBARU BOXER engine with improved fuel consumption, it can take you farther than ever. Rugged in appearance and performance, it also has the looks and durability to traverse a trail or make a new one.

SI-DRIVE

Based on your driving style, Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) can adjust the throttle and shifting response to give you immediate power and agility when you crave it in nearly any scenario.

When you want powerful engine performance, select Sport Sharp Mode for quick acceleration and sharp response. Use the paddle shifters and take even more control. To enjoy sporty driving, this mode unleashes the engine’s maximum potential.

Active Torque Split AWD

Paired with Lineartronic, the Active Torque Split AWD system responds to traction conditions, the transmission and driver inputs by continuously controlling the torque distribution front to rear.

Cradle Mount System

You’ll enjoy more agile handling and a smoother ride in the Outback, thanks to its Cradle Mount System. And in a collision, it allows the engine to retract under the cabin, lengthening the front crumple zone.

Improved Suspension

Using improved front struts and rear shocks, the suspension has been finely tuned for an enjoyable balance between responsive steering and a smooth, comfortable ride.

X-MODE engaged

X-MODE helps to give you reliable control with a push of a button. The technology of X-MODE takes command of the engine, transmission, Symmetrical AWD, brakes, and other components to safely navigate through challenging road conditions and varying terrain. When X-MODE is activated, Hill Descent Control automatically helps to maintain a constant speed when the Outback is travelling downhill.

Steering Responsive Headlights (SRH)*

When rounding a curve at night, the illumination direction of the headlights moves left or right according to the steering wheel to ensure visibility.

18-inch Aluminium-alloy Wheels*

Multi-spoke 18-inch aluminium-alloy wheels have an Outback-exclusive, rugged appearance and an aerodynamic design for improved fuel efficiency. Together with the 225/60R18 high-performance tyres, they make an attractive addition to the Outback.

Power Rear Gate Switch

At the push of a button, the power rear gate gives you instant access to the cargo area, making it especially easy to load up and go.

Front Fog Lamps

These efficient lamps reflect less glare in fog for added safety.

Roof Spoiler

Sophisticated and aerodynamic, the roof spoiler of the Outback is integrated seamlessly into the rear gate. The back side of it is coloured in black without coating to give it an outdoor feel and to help hide any scratches made when you’re loading cargo on the roof carrier.

Automatic Rain-sensing Windshield Wipers

Available automatic windshield wipers detect rainfall on the glass and adjust their wiping intervals and speed accordingly.

Dream it. Plan it. Do it.

With versatility built into its design, the Outback is ready to conquer any challenge you can conjure. For your adventures and your everyday life, the Outback provides a high-volume cargo space outfitted with features that make it more accessible, like 60/40 folding rear seatbacks for a wide range of cargo options and the available power rear gate with height memory to make loading and unloading simple. When you own an Outback, be ready to get more out of life.

Luggage and Seat Combinations

There’s more room for more of your life. Cargo capacity has been increased to make room for up to four 80-litre suitcases, and the floor has been made even flatter to allow for greater luggage capacity. You can also change the seating configuration in an instant—thanks to the 60/40 folding rear seats—allowing you to haul large items and various passengers as needed.

SAFETY

Subaru’s World-leading Driver Assist Technology

At Subaru, we believe in ALL-AROUND SAFETY, and an important part of that is pre-collision safety, making sincere efforts to ensure an accident never happens. That’s why we created EyeSight*1, Subaru’s cutting-edge driving support system. Like a second pair of eyes for the road ahead, EyeSight uses two stereo cameras to capture three-dimensional colour images with excellent image recognition, nearly as capable as the human eye. Using images from both cameras to precisely determine the shape, speed and distance, it not only detects vehicles but also motorbikes, bicycles, and pedestrians.*2 When spotting potential danger, it warns the driver and even applies the brakes if necessary to help avoid an accident. With improved safety performance like this, EyeSight reduces the burden on the driver and enhances your sense of security in the Outback.

Safety equipment in every direction

Cabin-protecting Layout

Every Subaru goes above and beyond common practice when it comes to your safety. In the event of a head-on collision, your Outback’s SUBARU BOXER engine and gearbox are designed to avoid moving into the cabin for your protection.

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)* Airbags

Front SRS* airbags, front side SRS* airbags, curtain SRS* airbags, and knee SRS* airbags come standard on the Outback to give all passengers a higher level of protection in the event of a collision.

Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame

The Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame strengthens the passenger cabin from the roof to the doors, pillars and floor. This design helps to divert and dissipate impact energy away from the occupants in a collision. It also contributes to strengthening and lightening the chassis, leading to greater, reinforced protection.

TECHNOLOGY

Subaru’s core technology

Subaru prides itself on being unique in the automotive world in that its vehicles make use of incredibly special technology, which not only gives them a unique presence but also provides inherent benefits to safety, fuel economy and driving enjoyment.

Why SUBARU BOXER Engine?

The boxer engine derives its name from the horizontal movement of its pistons, which resembles the quick, jab-like motions of a boxer’s fists. Although not a global standard, Subaru remains solely committed to the SUBARU BOXER engine because it embodies the Subaru promise of delivering enjoyment and peace of mind to all passengers. It also represents our steadfast commitment to technological innovation and engineering excellence.

On the road, this means ultimate handling prowess and confidence and when the going gets rough, precise power distribution makes obstacle-climbing and dirt road handling an impeccably easy and safe affair.

What makes it unique?

Unlike traditional “in-line” or “V-type” engine configurations, the pistons’ opposing movements inherently counteract each other, naturally helping to reduce vibration without the need for counter-balancers, which add weight and complexity.

What are its advantages?

The flat design of the SUBARU BOXER engine provides more stability and balance for better cornering, representing Subaru’s dedication to advanced driving safety. In the event of a frontal collision, the low placement design pushes the engine below the cabin, reducing risk of passenger injury.

Why Lineartronic?

Subaru Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) incorporates two adjustable pulleys with a chain link for stepless gear ratio. This feature ensures a smooth and comfortable driving experience with optimum power at any speed for better fuel efficiency.

Why Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive?

Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system evenly and continuously distributes power to all four wheels. This stable layout, with even weight distribution, gives the vehicle better overall balance and precision cornering control, allowing sufficient traction in slippery conditions to help keep you safe in bad weather and uneven roads.
